Vote tabulation loop-hole

Black Box Voting has exposed a security hole (details) in recent versions of the software used in Diebold electronic voting machines. The exploit, which should really be called a back-door, was already acnowledged by Diebold in earlier versions, but remains open in machines to be used in the up-coming 2004 election in states like California and Washington. Slashdot has more.

Walden O'Dell, Diebold's CEO, is one of Bush's "Pioneers." In 2003, he said he was "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president [this] year."

As slippery as Bush's election was, he didn't "steal" it according to the arguments leveled against him. No, the reason we can say he stole it has nothing to do with the Supreme Court or recounts--it has to do with Diebold memos indicating that on election night, 16,000 votes for Gore in Volusia County, Floria were deleted by Diebold machines. Bush "won" Florida by, at most, 500 votes (depending on who you ask, of course).

They're planning similar for this Novemeber. Not to worry, though, I've also heard of a small brigade of white-hat crackers who've pledged to deposit votes for Kerry for every vote dropped in for Bush. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if 25% of the population goes to the polls, and the votes cast indicate a 400% turnout. Presidential elections have always been determined, ultimately, by shadowy forces behind closed doors--it's just that it's usually the Electoral College, and not warring brigades of teenage hackers in their parents' basements.

Could be quite a show.

I've often said that the system is so badly managed that a group of seven year olds in different counties could very likely change votes on the central machines.

We could call it the "children's crusade." It'd be great fun.

Problem is, I don't believe in giving all kinds of extra votes to Kerry. Then the Democrats look like vote-riggers. In the terms you could use with a seven year old, you're stooping to their level.

I'd give all the votes to, say, the Worker's World party or someone else with absolutely no chance in hell. That way, they'd definitely hold a re-election, because ain't no way they'd let the commies in.
