Letter from Dr. Bob Jones III
Dear Mr. President: In your re-election, God has graciously granted America-though she doesn't deserve it -- a reprieve from the agenda of paganism. You have been given a mandate. We the people expect your voice to be like the clear and certain sound of a trumpet. Because you seek the Lord daily, we who know the Lord will follow that kind of voice eagerly.
Don't equivocate. Put your agenda on the front burner and let it boil. You owe the liberals nothing. They despise you because they despise your Christ. Honor the Lord, and He will honor you. -- Dr. Bob Jones III of Bob Jones University. (via Linkfilter.net)

jca, I have to wonder, with all your recent posts, if you aren't pandering A BIT to the idea that only religious zealots voted for Bush. Of course Bob Jones is going to write something like this. Bob Jones University is a Baptist seminary school. He wouldn' write, "You suck, Bush, you Jesus Freak!" Just like Michael Moore or Sean Penn wouldn't write, "Dear George, You've rescued us from the depths of heathen depravity. Smile! God Loves You."
My progressive bias is well-documented. The site needs more conservative posts and views -- I don't pretend to speak for that viewpoint.
I don't believe only religious zealots voted for Bush. But the "Religious Right" overwhelmingly voted for Bush, just as the so-called "South" did, which makes them a viable target for discussion. You subtract their vote, and Bush isn't President -- Jerry Falwell likes to remind everyone of this on a daily basis.
Everyone knows that the extremes on both sides make the most noise on these issues, but the overwhelming majority of Americans skew to the middle.
As for Bob Jones University, I think it's a worth a mention in the context of what Dr. Jones wrote, the university's racist history, and the controversy surrounding Bush's visit there years ago.
So you aren't posting Dr. Jones letter just to rile up folks who are probably already riled up? Just so you know, I have heard more hate-filled, anti-Christian bile being spewed since election day, than I have ever heard. And don't get me started on the "South should secede" crap.
People aren't allowed to be "riled up" after such a divisive campaign/election/term? That sounds like a "don't rock the boat" argument. I read anti-Democrat, anti-liberal, anti-progressive, anti-moderate "bile" every day -- does that mean I should edit my own views/posts?
And why should Bob Jones Unversity and/or it's questionable past get a "pass" because it would "feed the angry mob"? Why aren't you more offended at BJU's racist policies rather than said policies being pointed out?
The scary thing is, Bob Jones, unlike Michael Moore or Sean Penn, actually has influence with some very powerful factions in the United States government--which makes his insanity much more important to take note of, as it's much more likely to pop up in actual policy.
You know, why is it that anyone who has criticisms of the Religious Right is automatically "hate filled, anti-Christian"? You know, the vast majority of this country is Christian, just not Evangelical Christians. Which is who has the President in their hip pocket.
I'm not anti-Christian at all. I may even be a Christian yet, depending on who you ask .... but I **HATE** theocracies, no matter what religion they're promoting. I don't even want to see *my* religion becoming the rule for everybody to live by. Viva la difference, live and let live and so forth. Diversity is a good thing.
God has graciously granted America—though she doesn't deserve it—a reprieve from the agenda of paganism.
